Japanese Products from Japan to Europe: What to Order and What Cannot Be Sent by Post
24 October 2026 · 6 min read
What makes sense to order from Tokyo to EU countries: skincare and hair care, tea, stationery, toothpaste, supplements. And what Japan Post does not accept: aerosols and pressurised containers, alcohol-based perfume, batteries and more.

Japanese shops are full of things you cannot find in Europe, but not all of them can travel by international post. At Eurasia Japan we ship orders from Tokyo to all 27 European Union countries by Japan Post, and the question "can you send this?" comes up often. This article covers both sides: which categories of Japanese products are easy to order to Europe, and what the post will refuse even when the product looks harmless.
Shipping to the EU in brief
We buy from Japanese manufacturers, their distributors and Japanese retail stores, and ship from Japan. Every item is a retail pack of the Japanese market with a JAN barcode; before dispatch we check the barcode, packaging and expiry date. The minimum order is ¥8,000 in products for most EU countries, including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the Netherlands, and ¥30,000 for Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Portugal, Finland and Czechia: since July 2026 Japan Post does not accept parcels with goods under €150 to these nine countries. EU VAT, any duty and the postal clearance fee are currently paid by the recipient on delivery. Prices can be shown in euros through the currency switcher, and cards are charged in yen. Full details in our article on Japanese cosmetics delivered to Europe.
What is easy to order
Skincare and hair care
The largest part of the catalog. Japanese face, hair and body care in tubes, jars and non-pressurised bottles ships without problems. A hair care example: the Fino Premium Touch Hair Mask in a 230 g jar, a rinse-off treatment for very damaged hair with six types of serum ingredients, per the maker. Sections: face care, hair, body.
Japanese tea
Tea is light, keeps well and handles a long journey. Ippodo Gokujo Hojicha is a premium roasted green tea from the Japanese tea brand Ippodo; hojicha has less caffeine than regular green tea. For matcha there is Yamashiro Japanese Matcha in a 20 g aluminium can, powdered tea from Wazuka in the Uji tea area of Kyoto Prefecture. The full range is in the Japanese tea section.
Stationery
Japanese pens and pencils are a popular gift and travel well. Uni Kuru Toga Metal 0.5 mm is a mechanical pencil that rotates the lead as you write so it stays sharp. Sailor Profit Junior is a simple fountain pen with an MF nib that the maker recommends as a first fountain pen. More in the stationery catalog and on the Uni and Sailor brand pages.
Oral care
Japanese toothpaste and alcohol-free mouthwash are inexpensive items that help top an order up to the minimum. An example: Lion Nonio toothpaste in clear herb mint. Section: toothpaste.
Supplements
Japanese supplements in tablets, capsules and powders also ship to the EU, for example DHC Collagen, 60-day supply. Please note: these are dietary supplements of the Japanese market, not medicines, and they are not intended to diagnose or treat any condition. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition, consult your doctor before use and follow the manufacturer's directions. Catalog: supplements and vitamins.
What cannot be sent by post
These restrictions come from Japan Post and air carriers and apply to every country. We do not sell such items for shipping abroad, and our system will not create a postal shipment if such an item ends up in a parcel.
Aerosols and any pressurised containers. This is not only hair spray and spray deodorant. Mists, mousses in cans and serums with carbon dioxide are also excluded, even when the gas only pushes out a cream. A real case: Curél Deep Moisture Spray looks like an ordinary bottle from the outside, but the packaging states that it uses nitrogen gas and is a pressurised product. Japan Post returned such a parcel from the international exchange office in Tokyo. Renaming the item on the declaration is not an option: cans are visible on X-ray and false declarations are prohibited. That is why we removed such products from the site.
Flammable liquids. Alcohol-based perfumes and nail polish.
Oxidisers. Including bleach-type laundry and cleaning products.
Loose lithium batteries and power banks, and e-cigarettes.
Plants and seeds, and items made from CITES-protected species.
Allowed, but not to every country
Devices with a built-in lithium battery, such as skincare devices. Japan Post accepts them only to some countries and no more than two per parcel. The cart and checkout check this by destination, and the "What cannot be shipped" section of your country's page states directly whether such devices are allowed.
Kitchen knives. Shipped only where Japan Post rules allow, packed with the blade covered. The same destination check applies.
Some cosmetics need a composition document. Sunscreens, liquid deodorants and foundations are accepted with a composition document from the manufacturer.
How to build an order without surprises
- Start with your country's page, for example Germany or Latvia: it shows the minimum order, VAT rules and restrictions for that country.
- Choose products in tubes, jars, pump bottles and boxes rather than cans.
- If your minimum is ¥30,000, add things you use up anyway: toothpaste, tea, refill packs.
- The cart splits the order into parcels by weight and warns you if anything cannot be shipped to your country.
Returns
Unopened items in their original sealed packaging can be returned within 14 days of delivery; email info@eurasiajp.com with your order number first. The customer pays return shipping, and we refund the item price to the card within 14 days after we receive it. Opened cosmetics, supplements and food cannot be returned for hygiene reasons. Details on the returns page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order a Japanese spray deodorant or hair spray? No. Japan Post does not accept aerosols or pressurised containers for international mail, even with nitrogen. Choose stick, cream or wipe deodorants instead.
Do you ship Japanese tea and snacks? We ship tea, including matcha and hojicha; the food and snacks section shows everything currently available to order.
Can a skincare device with a battery be shipped? Only to countries where Japan Post allows it, and no more than two per parcel. The checkout checks this for your address.
Why is the minimum higher for Germany? Since July 2026 Japan Post does not accept parcels with goods under €150 to Germany and eight other EU countries, so the minimum for them is ¥30,000 in products.
